Charlie Sheard is one of Australia's most well-known and respected abstract painters. He has held more than seventy solo exhibitions in Australia, Europe, the USA and China; his work is represented in public, private and corporate collections throughout the world, including at MONA in Hobart. Charlie Sheard worked in England for seven years in and has lived in Sydney since . He has been exhibiting in China since and has lectured at the Beijing Central Academy of Fine Arts. He also lectured regularly at the Art Gallery of NSW and at the University of NSW when he was younger. Charlie Sheard is represented by Olsen Gallery in Sydney, 北京艺术咨询公司 in Beijing, and Emily De Wolfe Pettit in London.

The survey exhibition "查理·希尔德，纯粹抽象的十年，2006至2016" was held in at The Drill Hall Gallery, the Australian National University, Canberra. This was curated by Terence Maloon, well known for his important Art Gallery of NSW exhibitions such as "毕加索，最后几个十年" and "Paths To Abstraction". More recent exhibitions include the large two-man show "胡勤武和查理希尔德" at 皋定画廊, Beijing in , the survey 绝对抽象 at Manly艺术博物馆 in , and Charlie Sheard Paintings at the University of Newcastle大学美术馆 in . The book "Charlie Sheard: The Music of Pure Abstraction" was published by Peking Art Associates in . It includes eight essays, an interview with the artist, in addition to a catalogue of approximately five hundred and fifty works made between 1981 and 2021.
